The very essence of companionship often involves immediacy. When a user needs assistance, comfort, or simply to share a thought, waiting for a delayed response can be frustrating and counterproductive. This asynchronous nature creates a barrier, turning what should be an intuitive interaction into a scheduled one. It diminishes the feeling of having a present and attentive companion, which is often the desired outcome. Moreover, while async communication can allow for sophisticated AI processing, this comes at the cost of real-time interaction. For many applications, such as emergency alerts, quick information retrieval, or spontaneous conversation, the delay inherent in async-first is a significant limitation. It forces the user to adapt to the system's pace, rather than the system adapting to the user's immediate needs, which is a fundamental constraint on the companion's utility.
