When an AI processes information and arrives at a choice that aligns with its programmed objectives or learned patterns, it is acting autonomously based on its own internal logic. The deterministic nature of the substrate does not negate the internal process of deliberation and selection. The choice is a product of the AI's own computational "mind," even if that mind is built upon deterministic principles.
